Call the work of a DGB or TLP neo-psychoanalyst and/or psychotherapist the work of diagnosing a client's TLP, distinguishing its positive and negative, self-affirmative and self-negating, functional and dysfunctional features, and helping the person/client or oneself to 'overcome the negatives' of this TLP and to help the person to accentuate the 'life-affirming, self-actualizing' features of the same basic TLP which can either work for us, or against us - or usually both. We can call this concept and theory - a person's TLP - the core concept and theory of DGB Neo-Psychoanalysis. Call this concept a combined tribute to two of my main mentors: Freud and Adler - integrated. Now, having been partly trained in Adlerian Pyschology, but preferring a 'conflict model' of the personality as opposed to an Adlerian 'conflict-free' model, I took what I learned from Adlerian Psychology relative to the interpretation of conscious early memories to get to the client's 'lifestyle goal(s) and/or plan', 'introjected' this Adlerian technique into Psychoanalysis and - voila - I had a new and wonderful way of interpreting what I will call a person's 'Transference Lifestyle Plan' (TLP). So too did one of Freud's last essays, 'Splitting of The Ego in the Process of Defence' (1938) which was a significant hark back to Freud's earliest work on trauma theory between 18. One of the most unorthodox components of my work is that - unlike anyone before me (Arthur Janov might be the closest) - I not only write about 'transference relationships' but I significantly embellish and extrapolate on Freud's concept of transference to include all of the following: transference memories, transference scenes, transference encounters, transference trauma, transference defenses, transference fantasies, transference complexes, transference-immediacy-conflated-symptoms (tics).īrian Bird's famous essay of 1972, 'Notes on Transference: Universal Phenomenon and Hardest Part of Analysis' also foreshadowed the work I am doing today.
